Custom Bookshelves
Status: Future Feature
Allow users to create and organize custom bookshelves beyond the default (Currently Reading, Want to Read (TBR), Finished).
Overview
Custom shelves let users organize their library in personalized ways - by mood, genre, series, reading challenges, or any category meaningful to them.
Key Ideas
Shared Shelves (Spotify-style)
Like shared playlists on Spotify - users can create collaborative shelves that friends can contribute to:
- Share a shelf link with friends
- Collaborators can add/remove books
- See who added each book
- Follow public shelves from other users
- "Blend" shelves - auto-generated shelf combining recommendations from two users
Public Shelf Landing Pages
Web landing pages for shared shelves - perfect for Linktree-style sharing:
- Beautiful, shareable web pages (e.g.,
logbook.social/@emma/beach-reads) - Affiliate links for book purchases (Amazon, Bookshop.org, etc.)
- Embeddable widgets for blogs/websites
- Good for influencers, bookstagrammers, BookTok creators
- Potential monetization: revenue share on affiliate purchases
Requirements
- Custom shelf creation (max 20 shelves)
- Bulk shelf management
- Add books to multiple shelves
- Shelf visibility (public/private per shelf)
User Stories
- As a user, I want to organize my books into custom shelves so I can find them easily
